What I’ve Learned in 2017

Every new year most people reflect on what the past year has brought them, what they want to change, or just how it treated them as a whole. I think every year brings many ups and downs. Some things stand out more than others, and you may reflect on some bad more than good. That’s life. Life would be boring if the same thing happened day in and day out. So, I wanted to write what I’ve learned and maybe it might make you think about what stood out to you in 2017. All of these are in no specific order and are all a little random so bare with me.

  1. Appreciate the little things. I know it sounds cliche, but it’s so true. Family does mean everything and if you aren’t in tune or getting along with someone, you should try to mend the relationship. This also goes for friends as well.
  2. Forgiveness is HUGE. God says in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.” People are going to do wrong to you in this world. That’s a given. It’s how you react to it and treat them in return that matters. If you hold onto that unforgiveness I promise it’s only hurting yourself. You may not want to forgive them bc they did something you can’t fathom someone could possibly do to you and I know how bad it hurts to have someone you love/care about do something to hurt you. BUT no matter how bad you may not want to, try your best bc I promise when you let go of that extra weight you will feel a whole lot better.
  3. Stepping out of your comfort zone is one of the best things you can do. There’s so much out there, don’t let fear keep you from living a full life. I’m about to be thrown into the adult world… I graduate in 5 months and have to get a real big girl job. That’s scary for most people in my situation and I’ve learned that everyone has to do it. Everyone grows up and finds their way and I shouldn’t feel scared or panic because I know I will be led in the right direction where I’m meant to be.
  4. Jealousy is the worst emotion. Jealousy will eat you alive and not only that, it brings out the worst parts of you and your other emotions as well. I know it isn’t easy, but trying not to be as jealous is really good for your mental health.
  5. No matter how hard life gets, it is always worth living. For every reason to give up there are 100 reasons why you shouldn’t give up. Life is ugly and hard, but it’s also beautiful and rewarding, so live it. I hear about young kids and even adults taking their life and it hurts my heart. I know they have so many people that love them. The world has a lot to offer, so live your life, learn some lessons, and become the best person you can be.
  6. We all need to get better at listening to opinions that we disagree with/dislike. I know it’s hard to sit and listen to someone that you COMPLETELY disagree with. I’ve been there, but I need to be better about my reaction to their opinion and explain mine in a nicer manner.
  7. Patience. We all need a little more of it.
  8. Binge watching TV is actually the best thing ever….. RIP to 13 Reasons Why, Making a Murderer, Gossip Girl #XOXO, Stranger Things, Riverdale, This Is Us, Blindspot (currently) #thebest
  9. Technology is taking over this generation. I mean I realized this before 2017 but it’s still crazy to me. Do y’all agree? Side note- I am not a fan of the iPhone X face recognition. Why is this a thing??
  10. Smile more. Your mood effects everyone around you and it’s much more enjoyable when everyone is happy.
  11. Getting in a routine and setting goals for yourself really does help motivate you. I go back and forth of going to the gym at least 5 days a week to skipping for a couple weeks. It’s a cycle.. but life is all about balance, right? It takes 21 days to develop a habit, so think about that before you decide to give up on something you want to achieve!
  12. Focus on your own path.  It’s so easy to be distracted by the shiny exciting things other people are doing. Whether they’re starting a new job, booking a vacation or getting in a new relationship. Be happy for them without allowing it to make you feel bad about your achievements and what you’re doing in your life. Don’t allow it to sway you from your path – stay focused on your goals, which might be (and probably are) totally different from someone else’s.
  13. Be yourself. I wanted to start a blog for over a year before I actually did. I was afraid of what people might think or say. But who cares. I know people judge me, but I could care less. The people I love and care about support me and that’s all that matters. If people talk bad about you or don’t support something you’re passionate about, then they aren’t your friend. I always say, “People are going to judge you no matter what, so you might as well do what you want.” It’s your life. Do what YOU want.

I hope this post helps you reflect on your 2017 & inspires you to have a better new year, even if it was a great one. Remember you can always be better & practice makes perfect in all aspects of life!

I wish everyone the best in 2018!

Cheetah Hat in NM

Hat: similar ( so cute & on sale!) Coat: Thread & Supply Jeans: Express Top: Forever 21 Purse: LV Boots: Steve Madden (fave & 40% off!)

Day 3 in Red River, New Mexico & we are having so much fun! We have done a lot of eating and a lot of exploring… what else do you do on vacation?! Oh and drank a lot of coffee! #noshame Tonight we went to the Torch Light Parade at the ski resort. It’s always a fun thing to do at night since it get dark around 3:30-4:00 bc the sun gets behind the mountains. The parade only lasts about 10 minutes, but worth freezing with hundreds of other people to watch! They shoot off fireworks and about 50 people ski down with lit up skies, gear, and glow sticks! If you’re ever in Red River during New Years it’s for sure something to attend. There is also another one tomorrow that we’re going to for NYE!

I have gone skiing almost every year since I was about 6 or 7 and I love it. We’ve always gone to Red River. I like coming here rather than trying a new resort bc I know the way around the mountain. If you follow my blog you will come to know I like what’s familiar and it’s harder for me to try new things. It’s always how I’ve been! Maybe one day I will branch out and try Colorado 😉

I wore this outfit today for our little adventure. I’m not going to lie my hat is a girls, but I couldn’t resist! It was so cute– so I caved and purchased. Also, I have a small head… My seven year old brother has the same head size as me. It kinda makes me sad?? Does that make me not as smart? Haha! These OTK boots are one of my fave purchase of 2017. I have skinnier legs so it’s hard to find OTK boots that stay up on my legs but these do! They are currently 40% off. Worth the buy!

I hope everyone has a great NYE weekend and stays safe!!

NYE Looks

IMG_5230IMG_5231IMG_5232IMG_5233IMG_5234IMG_5236IMG_5235Vest: Target, on clearance!! Skirt: Forever 21, only sold in stores 😦 Top: Halogen Shoes: Vince Camuto, sold out similar Purse: Tory Burch

Finding something to wear for NYE has always been more difficult for me than other events. There’s so many fun/cute options it’s so hard to make a final decision! You can never go wrong with sequins or sparkles and I find 15 outfits I would love to wear. Choices, choices,

I found this skirt pictured and knew it was a must have once I laid eyes on it. You can dress it in so many different ways. I may or may not be guilty of planning to wear it year round! If you will be spending NYE indoors a skirt with over the knee boots would be a great option! Although, I will be in New Mexico watching fireworks on the mountain so I will be all bundled up!

What are your NYE plans & what will you be wearing??

I love winter because I get to pull out all the fur! Plus, the beanies, hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, chunky sweaters… you get the idea. Casual Look

Top: American Eagle Jeans: Levi’s Booties: Tory Burch Purse: Kelly Wynne, similar Watch: Michael Kors Bracelet: David Yurman Earrings: Kendra Scott

I wore this look last week to run a few errands around town. It is more of a fall look, but here in Texas it’s been 70 degrees… How crazy! It’s hard to dress for the weather & season when they don’t match up like they are suppose to.. lol But that’s okay bc I am all about flannels. They are so comfy but stylish, too. If you aren’t loving this green, American Eagle has many other colors as well. They are currently 50% off!

Who else is a Kelly Wynne lover? I love her line and the more she brings out new product, the more I love it!

I hope everyone is having a good Tuesday!

Last Minute Stocking Stuffers

Screen Shot 2017-12-18 at 12.58.19 PM

1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8

Who else is doing a little bit of last minute shopping?! I rounded up a couple easy last minute gifts that any girl would love!

Has anyone tried the It Cosmetics ‘Hello Lashes’ mascara? I purchased it on Ulta’s Black Friday sale to try and fell in love… it’s $24 and I know that’s a little pricey for mascara, but you won’t regret it! I never thought I would find a mascara I loved more than Too Faced ‘Better Than Sex’ but this one trumps it. If you try it let me know what you think!

The Feetures socks are so amazing. They are $15.99, but if you workout or play sports they are a must have. They prevent blisters and are so comfortable. I always wore these when I walked 36 holes in one day for tournaments. If I didn’t wear them I would have 4 blisters by the end of the day. I swear by these!

I hope everyone gets all the gifts they asked for & has fun plans for the break. I’m going skiing over New Years and I can’t wait!

What are your plans for the holidays?
